"Anyone
who has ever been physically
challenged should have this video"
| Mark
Wellman and a small crew of disabled friends climb Yosemite's El
Capitan and Half Dome, sea kayak with whales, alpine ski the steep
and deep, whitewater kayak off waterfalls, cross-country ski across
the High Sierra on arm power, and lots more. No Barriers
is more than just a great sports action movie, it's pure motivation! |

Training,
courage and innovative equipment have taken Mark Wellman higher,
faster and further into the wilderness than most able-bodied people
will ever go. The former park ranger has become a national hero,
invited to address major corporations, throw out opening day baseballs
and meet with two Presidents of the United States. But Wellman
is more than just a paraplegic climber with a national reputation,
he's a multi-sport athlete, driven to push his outer limits.
Using
the latest space-age materials and biomechanical concepts, Wellman
has developed and adapted custom equipment to challenge the
mountains, rivers and trails. He skis the extremes on a shock-absorbent
mono-ski, kayaks in heavy rapids, and drives his all-terrain
wheelchair like a mountain bike. He's also a former member of
the US Disabled Cross-Country Ski Team, competing in two Para-Olympics
at Lillehammer, Norway and Albertville, France.

Paralyzed
from the waist down in a climbing accident, Wellman fought through
the pain and depression of loss, and turned his disability into
a driving motivation to overcome his obstacles. He doesn't just
cope with the difficulties of his life, he dominates them.
Wellman
is not alone in his quest for challenge. Disabled men and women
throughout the world are knocking down barriers too, and Wellman
finds these kindred spirits everywhere he goes. Crossing the
Sierra Nevada Mountain Range on skis, he's joined by Jeff Pagles,
paralyzed below the solar-plexus by a falling tree. Climbing
in Europe he's joined by Yannick Lafargue, paralyzed along the
left side of his body in an automobile accident. In cross-country
racing he's joined by Candace Cable, a paraplegic marathon champion.
Kayaking the open ocean and inland bays with whales, Wellman's
colleague is Stef Dutton, a paramedic who lost his leg while
saving an injured motorist. Riding the whitewater rapids is
Mike Crenshaw, a rancher who lost his leg to a tractor.
As
Wellman climbs the granite walls and towers of Yosemite, cross-country
skis across the High Sierra wilderness, downhill skis with ruthless
speed through the chest-deep powder snow, kayaks whitewater
rivers, and paddles the ocean with friendly whales, he does
more than just push against physical obstacles. He uses the
force of his will to overcome the worst that life has to offer.
As he states in the movie: "A wilderness adventure took
my legs. But what it gave back was far more important
. . . the sharp edge of risk, the power of teamwork, and a life
full of challenge and joy."

"Everyone
faces the world with different abilities and disabilities. But
everyone has at least one goal in common . . . to break
through their own barriers."
No
Barriers is Mark Wellman's story.
